Nearly all of it resonates - partly because it so varied.
After several years of hearing collections of Tim Bragg''s songs, this instrumental set comes as a very pleasant surprise. One would most likely never have expected a collection of instrumental pieces, but there is also the added surprise of just how varied, inspired,consistent and entertaining this very accomplished one man multi-instrumental set is to listen to. Here is a rough guide to the tracks.
1 - Frantic and with an ambient backdrop, reminiscent of the improvisations of King Crimson circa 1981-1984.
2 - In contrast to the opening track, and with an acoustic guitar figure all he way through, this wouldn''t sound out of place on the playlist of https://www.tradebit.com
3 - Combines acoustic drums which are both crisp and clear and inspired and inventive, with electronica.
4 - Laid back with electric guitar played over both electronic sounds and the sounds of nature.
5 - A light reggae feel, and more lead https://www.tradebit.compositonnally, least impressive of the setso far, but short enough to be an interlude.
6 - Some nice sounding rythms.
7 - Just like it''s title
8 - Acoustic guitar and flute - as track 2 but with drums!
9 - A spoken lyric, over swinging and delightfully hyper active drums, with sparse piano. Both the subject and delivery of the words give this track a remarkably powerful emotional punch.
10 - Upbeat and busy
11 - Laid back, and reminiscent of Traffic with it''s flute and percussion and piano figure.
The sleeve notes refer to a theme of loss as a source of both inpsiration and motivation behind writing these pieces of music. The result is an uplifting collection whose variety of themes alone bring about a feeling of great abundance. This is a fantastic one man accomplishment!!
