Details:
Born Kossi Lazare Hounnake Adele, Dec. 31 1979, in Lome, Togo in West Africa.
Lazare took the name Halk as a shortened version of his full name with one letter from each name represented. The initial S. is for Steven, a name he inherited when the media in Togo dubbed him “Stevie Wonder of Togo”.
Lazare began having an enhanced interest in music after going blind at the age of nine, and by the age of nineteen had recorded two songs, “Desire De Dieu” & Union Qui Fait la Force”, with the band Blanche Musica. These songs gained popularity on local radio and Lazare had a following.
During an educational trip to Germany Lazare made more musical contacts and recorded his first solo album entitled Touche Pas. He financed the recording by busking and performing at venues in Germany and Belgium. The first singal “Don''t Kill Me” became a hit in Togo.
Since 2003 Lazare has made his home in Vancouver, BC, where he recorded his third solo album “G8”. It is peppered with songs about life, love and the quest for freedom. He performs with the Lazare Halk Band at many events and festivals in southern British Columbia.
