Details:
Ukelilli was born in suburban Maryland (birthname Lillian Parker). It would be useless to tell you the name of the town, as it shares it’s name with a popular 1970’s comedian, and no one ever believes that it’s actually the name of her town, and that, furthermore, the town was named that BEFORE the famous person was…. But I digress.
Since as early as she can remember, she played an instrument of one sort or another, be it the piano, the clarinet, the trumpet, the guitar, or many others. At the age of 17, she had brain surgery and awoke unable to move her legs and unable to speak. On a whim, her mother brought in her ukulele, the one instrument that she could play in a hospital, without disturbing the rest of the floor. Miraculously, when she played, she could not only sing, but dance too! After a year, she got her speech and movement back, but that year with her uke, made them inseparable.
Thus begun a whole new chapter in the life of Ukelilli (for example, changing her name to Ukelilli). She moved to New York, took her shows to the subways, and started making the big bucks playing for fans who found her adorable.
One fan even successfully solicited her music for use as the soundtrack to the "Intern Journal" extra on THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU dvd. Another used her talents to build a soundtrack to his award winning short, CRACKS.
Ukelilli now lives in LA and tries to balance her love of ukin’ with her love of movies. She is currently hard at work on film about the birth of Ukelilli.
SUPER SPECIAL THANKS FOR THIS CD to John, Zak, Gage, Eva and most of all Gary for his magical producing of this wacky compilation of my brain thoughts.
