Details:
Ann’s lyrics are intimate and vulnerable, with themes ranging from acknowledging feelings and self-acceptance to introspection, self-worth, and personal transformation. By sharing it, she hopes to support others in the process of surrendering to their authentic selves.

Her musical style is contemporary folk. She accompanies herself on acoustic guitar, with vocal harmonies from Milwaukee musicians like Sandy Weisto and Nancy Martinho; members of her choir, Karen Beyer, Alberta Dhillon, and John Wanner; and her husband, Matt Nagel. Ann is also accompanied on piano by Carrie Sanders and on clarinet, by her daughter, Megan Brink.

Ann got her start in the Milwaukee music scene by singing with a folk trio called Sweet Diversity. Sweet Diversity performed a cappella, three-part harmony, and contemporary and traditional folk music. They released two CDs, “Sweet Diversity” (2000) and “They Get That Way Underground” (2004). While singing with Sweet Diversity, Ann wrote songs about emotional insights and transformational moments in her life. She also began directing a choir for a inter-denominational spiritual community. In 2007, Ann left Sweet Diversity to pursue her own music. She released her first solo CD, “I Surrender,” in 2008.

Ann fell in love with acoustic guitar as a child, listening to her father play songs like “You are My Sunshine” and “Frog Went A-Courtin”. She started guitar lessons at age 8 and started singing and playing in choirs at age 10.

Ann started writing poetry in the 1990’s. She enjoyed reciting them at poetry readings and had several of them published. Ann began writing songs when she realized that she could put her poems to music. She sang her first song at a poetry reading, planting the seed of her dream to perform her own original music.

Ann started to believe there was a place for her music when she heard Jana Stanfield for the first time. Jana calls herself “The Queen of Heavy Mental” and says the goal of her music is to give her fans “a faith-lift.” Ann had the honor of singing some impromptu backup with Jana at a concert in Milwaukee, after participating in Jana''s songwriting workshop. Ann sees Jana as a role model and a kindred spirit.
