Denise is a native Alabamian, and a graduate of Tennessee State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications and Theatre with a minor in Sociology. While in College, Denise produced, directed and hosted two television shows on Viacom Cablevision, while simultaneously serving as The Featured Baton Twirler for Tennessee State University’s Aristocrats of Bands. After graduating Denise moved to Los Angeles to continue her professional studies in the Arts; there she attended and signed with John Casablanca’s Modeling Schools’ Elite Modeling Agency, Weist, Barron Hill School of Acting and trained as a vocalist with the renown Christopher Robin Vocal Studios. While in Los Angeles she instantly claimed a spot as a featured dancer on the 80’s & 90’s popular television music show, "Soul Train" and when she wasn’t gracing the runway, television or movie cameras, Denise worked as a voice-over talent for numerous television and film roles. After completing her formal artistic studies, Denise returned to her hometown where she competed and won the reigning title of the First “Miss Black Alabama” in 1986.
A year later, Denise moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she primarily worked as a commercial actress in television and radio. She also performed in numerous theatre and dance productions around the Atlanta area and landed several roles in the television series “In the Heat of the Night”. In quest to fulfill her passion for our children, Denise attended graduate school at Clark Atlanta University to obtain her teaching certificate in Middle School Language Arts; after which, Denise taught in the public schools for five years as a professional educator in the areas of English, Dance and Drama Instruction. However, Denise continuously worked independently over the last several years with numerous Churches and Community Dance/Theatre Companies in the areas of choreography, writing and directing spiritual and community productions. Denise has been featured on TBN’s “Praise the Lord” television broadcast on two occasions, in 2004 she was invited as a guest featuring her Powerful One-Woman Inspirational Stage Play “CHOICES” and recently, she was invited to perform four songs from her inspirational spoken word album, “The Essence of the Holy Spirit…Poetry that speaks to your SOUL”.
In the year 2005, Denise served as the Coordinator of Performing Arts for the City of Selma. She is now the Founder and Artistic Director of Elyon Worldwide, Inc., a non-profit organization that helps bring arts to rural and inner city communities. In addition, Denise is currently a Touring Performing Artist, a member of The Alabama Alliance for Arts Education, The Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham and The Americans for the Arts. Denise is humbled and appreciative to accept again the 2008-2009 acclamation as one of Alabama’s Top Performing Artist throughout the Southeast by The Southern Arts Federation. As Denise so eloquently states, “I am Nothing, without Something that God gives to me.”
“And my artistic abilities are not from enticement of the world, but in demonstration of the power from within.”
