DPK Records is pleased to announce the release of Los Angeles, California based drummer Devin Kelly’s first major recording as a leader, “First Things First” (2008). The trio features guitarist Bob Sneider and organist Dino Losito, both major fixtures on the New York state jazz scene.
After graduating in 2005 with a master’s from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, Mr. Kelly relocated to the west coast where he continues to make a name for himself by performing with many of the nation’s top artists. Devin has shared the stage with Clark Terry, Bob Brookmeyer, Eric Reed, Wessel “Warm Daddy” Anderson, Gary Foster, Stacy Rowles, Bob Sheppard, Bill Cunliffe, John Campbell, Clay Jenkins, Chuck Manning, Sam Most, Joe Bagg, Julie Kelly, Judy Wexler and many other jazz luminaries.
DPK Records specializes in “LIVE” recording…the ultimate goal being to give you the consumer the most authentic and organic sonic experience possible, similar to that of attending a concert. All song selections are “complete takes” , recorded live by the musicians, all of whom set up in the same room exactly as they would be if they were performing on stage. No overdubbing of any kind was administered after the fact. A small amount of reverb was added to the room mic’s and minimal compression used on the Leslie speaker and bass drum.
