Gustav (Gus) Renner is a fixture in the virtual unknown music scene. He and his Raghat Band put their collective, creative talents together to bring to life the songs of a little known and diversely unrestricted songwriter named Kevin Reardon.
Gus and the crew first teamed up with Kevin on the CD titled Movin’ On, which features David Morgan in one or more of his multi-talented capacities - singing, strumming, picking, plinking, arranging, tapping, pounding, producing or mixing. It just couldn''t have happened without him. Similarly, Movin’ On would not be what it is without the engineering brilliance of Matt Sietz, the vocal mastery of Fonda Feingold and Angel Rissoff, and the guitar wizardry of John “Ratso” Gerardi. Movin'' On is going to be remastered, re-released and available on Cd Baby in early 2009.
David Morgan then took the lead and produced and performed 10 solo piano songs written by Kevin that collectively became known as the CD titled Drifting (available on CD Baby). Once again Matt Sietz was the engineer and did an outstanding job of capturing David''s amazing performance.
Gus, David, Matt and the band are now being joined again by Fonda Feingold, Angel Rissoff and John “Ratso” Gerardi but also by new exciting vocalist extrordinaire Kelly Mittlemen on the new CD titled Heartsongs. Kelly sings on four of the tracks, Fonda on three, Angel on four and David handles the rest and does the overall production chores. Heartsongs contains a broad range of jazz and jazz-blues-rock flavored songs and, with 23 unique musicians, really shows how the Raghat Band is growing to reach new performance heights. George Smith contributed lyrics to four of the songs and has been collaborating with Kevin on many more that will appear on an upcoming country music CD and a folk-bluegrass CD.
Briskin Petters and the Big Stone 5 take over on the new country music CD titled Halfway To Houston. Briskin is an expelled member, in good standing, of the Natchez Trace Society of Countrified Musicians, and a master of the interpretation of songs with far too many verses to ever get serious radio play. On Movin’ On, he and the Big Stone 5 appeared on the song The Rest Is Easy, primarily because Briskin initially thought that it was written about him. By the time he figured out that it wasn’t, it was too late ... and we had the track.
On Halfway To Houston, Briskin and the Band are joined by Tyler Smith doing amazing things - arranging, performing and singing all of Kevin''s new country songs. George Smith contributes lyrics to most of them, and together they explore a wide range of songs from the heartland. Ernie Albert takes over the engineering role and does a great job of capturing the energy and poignancy of all of the songs. Halfway To Houston is due for release in early 2009 and will be available on CD Baby at that time.
