Kendra Gale is a very talented young singer/songwriter with a unique voice signature and vocal style, her songs often being compared to those of Sheryl Crow and Jewel. A multi-instrumentalist, playing drums, guitar and singing, she writes and composes her own music and lyrics. Although coming across as quiet and shy, she expresses herself magnificently with her contemporary pop/rock songwriting. “I just write about the things that go on around me or stuff that has happened in my life, and it seems like people really respond to that,” she said in a recent interview on community television.
Born hearing impaired, the New Brunswick native from St. Andrews By The Sea underwent 3 corrective surgeries and by the age of 4 had her hearing restored to almost 100%. She was introduced to music at a very young age by her brother, Keith, and picked up on it very quickly, using pots and pans as drums to accompany him. She started playing percussion in her school band at the age of 10 and has been in a number of local bands since. Introduced to guitar at the age of 12, by 13 she wrote her first song, ‘Second Thought’ which is on her self-titled debut album. The City of Saint John’s Rock Camp 2004 was Kendra’s first opportunity to perform some of her songs solo which earned her a standing ovation. She has performed on the “Members Only” stage and the “72 Hour Jam” at the 2006, 2007 and on the “Discovery Stage” at the 2008 ECMAs, as well as showcasing at Music New Brunswick Week 2007, where she received yet another extended standing ovation from a standing room only crowd.
Kendra''s first self-titled CD was released on August 28, 2006 and was described by Bob Mersereau of the CBC as “… a strong debut, the work of a confident songwriter, offering a rocking edge to her acoustic-based tunes.” The CD has also generated heavy radio airplay on stations such as 102.9 WCRQ Calais, Maine in “The Hot Rotation”, where her song “Wish” was 2 weeks at #1 and in the top 10 for 12 weeks, displacing such artists as Madonna, Avril Lavigne and Fergie.
