Details:
Christmas is a beautiful, reassuring time of forgiveness, indulgence and love. Unless you’re stuck on your own with a loyal cat, a box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and a roadkill Christmas tree salvaged from the nearby highway.
Canadian singer/songwriter Serafin (currently performing in California) releases a Christmas song dedicated to those hapless souls who, for whatever reason, face the treacly sweetness of the season with a mixture of nostalgia and nausea.
The Cat, The Tree and Me is a sweet, jazzy retelling of Serafin’s first Christmas on his own at 18; living in a renovated chicken coop barn in the middle of nowhere, he finds himself eschewing the mistletoe and staring down the business end of the starchiest cheese dinner product known to mankind.
And yet, despite the KD meal, the half-flattened tree and the oblivious cat, there is still an inescapable sense of hope and comfort during the festive season for a better new year. And a proper turkey dinner.
The Cat, The Tree and Me is 100% Canadian Content: written and performed by Serafin LaRiviere, produced by Jono Grant and featuring Juno Award recipients Tony Quarrington and Christopher Plock.
“One of the most distinctive voices in the country.”
