Formed in 2006, Sid and Fancy is a energetic hybrid of old-timey traditional American bluegrass and contemporary punk drive. Featuring punk percussion elements (electric bass and guitar and ''pummeling'' drums) and melodies straight from the old American west (banjo, mando/acoustic guitar and fiddle) they focus on rhythmic dynamics, vocal harmony and rippin'' fast instrumental breaks. Their live shows feature an energetic crowd, raucous celebration, and a generous helping of the roughest whiskey around.
This, their first full-length album, speaks to themes such as regret, isolation, solidarity, and the impermanence of life on the road. Referencing hobo slang, "Barrelhouse" refers to a "cheap, filthy, lodging house" and an "Angelina" is "a hobo''s companion".
While the lyrics draw on imagery from the early American West, such as mining towns, vagrant travelers, mills and masonry, the album also speaks to the current culture of the developing ''crass roots'' community of touring pacific northwest bands blending punk rock and traditional, Americana/folk elements.
