Details:
"WINTERSONG" is music for those weeks around the winter solstice when you want to light a candle and feel peaceful, or when you want to bake cookies or work on crafts while listening to seasonal music that feels both old and new.
Arranged for piano, celesta, glockenspiel and classical guitar, this collection includes folk melodies, carols and hymns, along with four of my own compositions and two by my beloved father, Fenno. - Sarah Sedgwick Heath
All the piano tracks were created at Fern Hill in Cornish, New Hampshire, in a field near the woods. The other instruments and voices were added in Connecticut, during the months of October and November, 2008.
All arrangements and instruments are played by Sarah Sedgwick Heath.
TRACK LIST:
Bring a Torch: a joyous, little known French carol; always my mother’s particular favorite
Nous Voici Dans la Ville: wistful, reminiscent of a small rural European village at night
For the Beauty of the Earth: the classic hymn revisited as a freely improvised piano solo
Wintersong: my father, Fenno Heath’s, charming "Sing a Song of Christmas," arranged here for celesta.
(at the beginning, a match lights candles that send little brass angels striking bells gently on a Swedish toy we used to have)
Lord of All Hopefulness: a gorgeous Irish tune often seen in hymnbooks; rich and full of longing
Evening Snow: atmospheric touches of glockenspiel and piano mingle with the carol, Unto Us.
Personent Hodie: an ancient chant from England, lyrical and insistent
The Lamb: a Christmas carol by my father, who created it to commemorate the birth of my little brother in 1961. Here, it is "sung without words"
Star of the County Down: a lovely, haunting traditional waltz tune from Ireland
Parrish Blue: a freeform piano solo full of the many shades of blue in winter twilight
Into Cerulean: a mood piece, in which stars dance slowly across a deep, dark sky
Unto Us: from an old English carol; the simplicity of chant, set here for solo alto glockenspiel
