At the age of 15, David yielded his life to fulltime ministry under the ministry of Evangelist Phil Shuler.
Then at the age of 19 was licensed to the ministry at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Denver.
David sang with the Shook-Parker Gospel Singers as they traveled throughout the Midwest and Rocky Mountain west.
David appeared on the Rocky Mountain Jamboree in Denver. Buster Jenkins, who later led the band for the late Patsy Montana ("I Want To Be A Cowboy''s Sweetheart"), was the leader of the show. Artists such as the Stanly Brothers appeared.
David was als a DJ on country music station, KPIK, in Colorado Springs, working for David Pinkston, "Pappy Dave Stone," who got Buddy Holly his first recording contract with Decca.
David met the late Norman Petty in Clovis, New Mexico. Norman had been the manager and recording genius for Buddy Holly. Norman encouraged David in his music and asked for a copy of his songs to try to place with artists, such as Johnny Duncan.
Then David spent an evening at the Lawrence Holley residence with Mr. & Mrs. Holley (parents of Buddy Holly), singing to them with Buddy''s guitar. A memorable experience to be sure.
David attended Bible College in Denver, CO. There he met Bevery Jean Carter who was to become Mrs. David Shook. They celebrate 40 years of marriage in April of 2003.
They have 2 children, John & Susan. 2 grandchildren, Darylese & Andrew. David and Jean have lost 2 chidren, Robert and Patrick. Both died of Cystic Fibrosis. The song, "We''ll See Our Loved Ones Again," was written in memory of Robert. The song is on the "Homecoming Country," album.
Pastoring churches in Colorado, Illinois, and California, David has had wide and varied experiences in the ministry.
