At age thirteen his father refused to sign the release form allowing TA to compete at the hometown jr. rodeo in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He ended up on a plane and went to live with his sister, a trick rider herself, married to a rodeo contractor. In reflection he say''s; "I may have been the only kid born in the East, raised in the West, that ended up going East to start a rodeo career. And ever since his friends are quick to tell you; The longest TA ever stayed anywhere was in his mothers womb!
