Details:
Robert was born on September 21st of 1955 in Detroit Michigan (The Motor City). Robert''s musical aspirations started at the early age of 12. Robert played the trumpet for six years through junior high and high school. At 16 he started playing guitar, and within a year and a half was playing at several coffee houses, and lounges throughout the Detroit area. Robert joined a seven-piece R&B group at the age of 20 as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. The group played the sounds of Tower of Power, Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, etc. That is when Robert met his drummer and best friend of now over 25 years, Steve Takahashi. Robert and Steve formed a friendship that is now approaching three decades. Steve is still involved in the Robert''s music, and his talents can be heard on Robert''s new smooth jazz CD "Cool Breeze".
Robert made his way out west to the Seattle area where he begin touring with a show group called Vocal Point. Steve joined the group shortly after. Robert spent several years touring the west coast before heading south. In 1981, Robert and his family and of course Steve made their way south to Los Angeles, California. Robert began working with local musicians to form a group that would begin showcasing his original compositions. Within a year, Robert got what he thought was going be his Big Break. Robert signed with West Management / Record Company. Richard West, founder of the company, became Roberts''s personal manager. Robert signed a three-year deal. West Production produced Robert''s first CD project and it was going to be distributed through Qwest Records (Quincy Jones Label). Unfortunately, the Quest Records production did not materialize into a successful venture.
Robert spent the next 10 years in the Los Angeles area working as a studio musician and picking up local gigs here and there. Robert also took on the role of a producer, and arranger and was involved in the production of several independent label projects. Robert has an exceptionally good ear, and a natural talent for the engineering side of the recording business. As the years progressed, not only was Robert arranging and producing projects, he was also the head engineer at the control panels. After five years in the Los Angeles area, Robert decided to open his own recording studio "Fast Trak Recording Studios". Robert spent the next five years honing his producing, arranging, and engineering skills. Robert quotes "I really enjoy the engineering side of the business, but not as much is I enjoy playing and writing music." In 1991, Robert sold his recording studio and moved to Central Florida where he resides today.
Robert currently owns his own state-of-the-art digital recording studio and still takes on the occasional independent artist project; however, the majority of his time is devoted to his own projects and live performances. You can hear Robert''s engineering and producing skills, not to mention his guitar playing on his latest smooth jazz project "Cool Breeze". Robert''s cheerful melodies, blended with some Spanish guitar influences produce a unique and relaxing sound.
Robert is a self-taught musician, his only formal training were the six years he spent in junior high and high school playing the trumpet. Robert has studied guitar privately on and off for over 25 years. He also studied privately through the National Guitar Workshop, completing several Jazz curriculums developed by Jody Fisher in chord harmony, improvisation, and theory. Robert was very fortunate to have the opportunity to be tutored by one the worlds most renown and sought after vocal instructors of our time, George Peckam. Look for Robert to showcase his vocal talents on future projects.
Robert currently performs at one of the most prestigious resorts in Central Florida, the Grand Cypress Hyatt Regency Resort. Check Robert''s web site for his performance schedule. Robert is also currently forming his Orlando based smooth jazz group in which he will be performing at several of the Smooth Jazz venues in the Orlando area; City Jazz, Pleasure Island, The Jazz Company, and others. Robert also hopes to be joining the Smooth Jazz festival events throughout the United States within the next six months.
