Details:
John Turner features his most requested tunes, the slow airs and laments that are his hallmark. He intersperses these airs with strathspeys, pipe marches, reels and jigs, highlighting his eloquence as a solo fiddler. Scottish fiddlers have long held that fiddling is more than just dazzling speed, but that the ability to play the slow listening tunes marks the true mastery of the instrument.
John has been 10-time National Scottish Fiddling Champion, and is known as a leading exponent of traditional 18th and 19th century Scottish fiddling. Born in Scotland into a family of fiddlers, his traditional style was much influenced by some of Scotland''s best known musicians, including his tutelage under and friendship with Hector MacAndrew.
Composer of many Scottish fiddle tunes, John is also founder and director of the twenty-five year old Jink and Diddle School of Scottish Fiddling, in the mountains of North Carolina, and performs regularly in Williamsburg, Virginia and across the U.S. He has inspired, tutored, coached and advised thousands of students who have come to love this tradition as he does.
