Details:
Janis Pruitt''s rich, soothing voice combined with her rhythmic style on the acoustic guitar creates a most pleasurable listening experience. She stirs the emotions whether she is delivering one of her passionate originals or covering a Dylan classic. It''s obvious Janis enjoys her music and the audience is quick to join in her enthusiasm.

Janis, a Georgia girl, recently moved to Louisville, Kentucky. In a short time with only a handful of performances, she has established an admiring fan base, with a good number of local musicians included in that ever growing number.

Janis'' father, a Baptist minister, instilled in her a love and deep appreciation for music at an early age. The Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, and "Sacred Harp" singing were some or her earliest musical influences. Probably her earliest "performances" were impersonating Elvis for family friends and relatives.

She has performed professionally for a number of years in a variety of configurations, from full bands to solo performances, and in a number of genre including traditional Appalachian, bluegrass, folk-rock, and rock ''n'' roll from traditional blues-based to alternative. This variety of styles comes no doubt from all her different influences over the years, including everybody from the Beatles, John Prine, Tracy Chapman, John Gorka, Sam Bush, Nanci Griffith, Lucinda Williams, and a list too long to continue. She especially has a love for "small label" music, and hosted two traditional/acoustic/bluegrass/etc. radio shows in the 80''s and 90''s.

Janis was able to concentrate on developing her writing skills in the fertile Nashville environment for a couple of years in the late 80''s. Playing at the Bluebird Café''s "Writer''s Night" was a "big deal" at the time because she is such a fan of so many of the talented writers who are featured there. Being pretty tough on herself and her writing, the support she found playing at the Bluebird and Nashville''s "Douglas Corner" gave her the encouragement she needed.
