Details:
I was raised on the side of a mountain in Eastern Oregon. I had a pony and a dog. At 19 I moved to New York''s East Village and played in a band that aspired to be Industrial Country. I drank whiskey and swung a hammer. For the past few years I have lived in Portland, OR making albums, touring as money permits and playing with some of the most interesting and fantastic musicians anywhere. I have self released three albums all of which have been very positively reviewed, and well played by those who have discovered them. Highlights of the last few years include a standing ovation from a sold out crowd at Portland''s Alladin Theater as an opener for Junior Brown, and traversing the country solo and with a band. By far my best work yet, the EP "The Blackguard''s Waltz" features engineering, producing, and performances by Mike Coykendall (https://www.tradebit.comd) and Chet Lyster (Eels, Lucinda Williams). I am currently at work on a new pop album (Mr. Blue) and a folk operetta/movie called "The Suicide of Lillian Low". Feel free to get in touch with me through myspace. I always like to know who listens and where you are from. Who knows- maybe i''ll come visit.
"The Blackguard''s Waltz is the welcome return of one of Portland''s best songwriters. After drawing on family history for his dustbowl debut and kicking out the jams roadhouse style his last time out, James Low scales things back on his new EP. The addition of piano helps bring a pop sensibility to these songs we haven''t necessarily heard from Low before-- from the haunting opener, "Isn''t It Funny," to the radio-ready closer, "Before You Let Me Down" (which may be the best pop song you hear outta Stumptown all year). If you''ve never heard him, or have taken him for granted, this new EP will show you why some of us hope Low doesn''t wait another six years to put out a new recording."
