Details:
George and Bruce are Toronto-based musicians who play and write in many styles but are best known for jazz. They also teach at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Bruce is a member of The Latino Jazz Project and the Kalais Trio.
This album began with a jazz concert by George and Bruce at the Ettore Mazzolini Concert Hall in December 2002. The concert was built around tunes by Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. George wrote two tunes for the concert and arranged a song by Debussy as a vehicle for jazz improvisation (This "Clair de lune" is not the famous piano piece). Besides these tunes and a couple of others (by Miles Davis and Chick Corea) not included on the CD, the concert featured performances of a movement of Phil Woods Sonata for Saxophone and Piano and a set of three variations on Chopin''s C-minor prelude written by George.
The success of the concert prompted Bruce and George to go the the recording studio (Studio 9 in Toronto), and the material for this CD was recorded in four sessions. Each take is live - no overdubs, etc.
