Bill Deal & The Rhondels hold the high-water mark for "Beach Music" bands having placed 3 different tunes high on the Billboard charts back in the 60''s and early 70''s. The formula that did the trick was the astute pairing of a polka-beat arrangement and a powerful horn section, with tunes, that had already established themselves in the Southeast regional scene, but had failed to break out into national prominence in their original versions. Powerful renditions of “May I”, “I’ve Been Hurt” and “What Kind Of Fool (Do You Think I Am)” not only climbed the US charts, but were hits in many foreign countries as well.
