Mountain Aires is a group of young acoustic musicians from Wake County, North Carolina. Their award-winning style reflects a mature sense of creativity, beauty, and excitement. They play a unique blend of traditional acoustic music, including bluegrass, Celtic, folk, old-time, and gospel.
Mountain Aires first began to jam together in the winter evenings of late 2004. Their music was catalyzed by long-time friendships and common goals, and galvanized by the leadership of Trans World Radio missionary and experienced musician Marvin Heath. This young band soon was performing publicly and began to plan their first record project, Echo the Legacy.
In 2006, Mountain Aires won blue and red ribbons in the North Carolina State Folk Festival music competition. Since the band released Echo the Legacy in early 2007, the band has matured musically and developed a more subtle, sensitive, complex, and innovative style. The group has introduced new instruments and textures, enhancing the distinctive sound and personality of Mountain Aires.
"We are shameless antiquarians, but we don’t ''Echo the Legacy'' just because it’s old. We are inspired by the Covenanters and freedom fighters of the highlands both of the British Isles and the Carolina hills. Our goal is to play our music with all our hearts, Soli Deo Gloria, to the Glory of God Alone, like our spiritual predecessors."
