Details:
Founded by violinist Jake Shulman-Ment and bracsist (3-string viola) Áron Székely, MetróFolk has rapidly grown from a spontaneous musical phenomenon commonly found on the streets and subways of New York City into one of the premier Hungarian and Romanian folk bands in North America. They have become a vital part of their community of immigrants and decsendants of immigrants in the New York area, and through their concerts and dance parties, have been able to evoke a taste of old-world village culture in the heart of one of the world''s greatest urban centers.
On their debut CD, Renegades of Folk, Metrófolk has captured the fiery, alchocol-drenched, pulsating energy of their live performances. Recorded in just one day, this CD presents a virtuosic performance of traditional dance tunes and songs from Transylvania. Aided by the stellar vocals of Kata Harsaczki and the lush cimbalom of Pete Rushefsky, this string band is sure to capture your ears, feet, and heart.
