Details:
The new CD, "O'' BE JOYFULL," features 17 tracks/songs (*) of real Americana from the American Civil War era, along with liner notes which include short, historically accurate, stories and descriptions about each of the songs.
"O'' Be JoyFull" is a dynamic singing duo, with strong harmonies, made up of Rick Garland, Baritone, Piano and Bill Vitelli, Tenor, who have produced this newly released CD, "O'' BE JOYFULL," which celebrates the songs and stories of the American Civil War, and the Irish.
By the mid 19th Century, it was socially expected that you would have a piano as one of the main furnishings of your parlor, or living room, so as to both impress, and more importantly, entertain yourself and your friends. That''s why America''s songs and stories were most often enjoyed around the Piano, the 19th Century''s number one musical instrument!
Rick and Bill dedicate these songs to all of their friends in Gettysburg, PA., where they most often perform, (almost every week and/or weekend and their schedule is available at https://www.tradebit.com), as well as to their friends in Harpers Ferry, WV, and also in their home state of New Jersey, who''ve helped and encouraged them along the way, and especially to the thousands of men and boys, long gone,
whose songs they sing, in their honor.
Philip M. Cole, author of,"Civil War Artillery at Gettysburg," and also a Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg, and a big fan of "O''Be JoyFull," has this to say about Rick and Bill''s new CD, "O''BE JOYFULL"... "Rick and Bill have done their research and have come up with a great, fun filled collection of wonderful American and Irish Civil War songs and stories. Plus, those boys can sing!"
The following is an excerpt from a review which appeared in the Civil War Re-enactor''s newspaper,"The Civil War News,"....This CD contains many of the old favorite Civil War tunes that would be sung around the campfire or during tea in the parlor including, "Listen To The Mockingbird," "Maryland, My Maryland!," "Aura Lea," and Kathleen Mavourneen," just to name a few. A couple of instrumentals are also included: "Garryowen," and "Johnny Has Gone For a Soldier/The Battle Cry Of Freedom," prelude...This is a great CD. Garland and Vitelli have great voices and harmonize beautifully. If you want to listen to some good old fashioned Civil War music I highly recommend "O'' BE JOYFULL!" It will get your feet tappin and your voice (at least in my case) a croakin!"
(*) - One song, "A Lonely Night''s Grace," (C) Copyright Rick Garland, is a beautiful and touching song of unrequited love, and follows an ancient and long time musical and poetical tradition by adapting the melody of a 19th Century song, "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms," by Thomas C. Moore, circa 1830, with new, but timeless lyrics of unfulfilled love.
