The group Zarambeque recently presented- to much acclaim- their first album titled “Zarambeque: Traditional Contemporary Music” in the Botanical Garden “Francisco Javier Clavijero” (Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico).
The inclement weather did not stop a full crowd from arriving and enjoying this fresh music. As an introduction, renowned Jazz musician Guillermo Cuevas spoke about the importance of the Jarocho music and its indigenous, African and European roots, emphasizing the support needed for this “non-commercial music” that is created with the talent, knowledge and effort of each of the members of the group.
…The group has had the opportunity to perform in places like Coatepec, Xalapa, the North of Veracruz, Cuernavaca and Mexico City among others…
Zarambeque privileges the sound of the jarana (traditional string instrument from Veracruz) and makes it richer, not just with the sound of the bass but also the electric guitar. This is why they often have invited guests playing with them that collaborate in the creation of this music that they themselves have called “traditional contemporary”.
It should be mentioned that the two principal instruments in the group, the jarana and requinto, were built by the musicians themselves in the Zarambeque Workshop.
Another interesting element in the group is Sara Robledo, who gives a feminine touch to the group and who has a privileged voice, besides having an excellent stage presence thanks to the sensuality that she projects and the heart she puts into each of her dances.
