ABOUT HAYDEN LYNCH
Steel pan music is native to the rich at heart Caribbean culture.
It should come as no surprise how much music has captured my heart and soul.
Originally from Trinidad and the small eastern island village of Tuna Puna, I was always influenced by the soothing sound of the steel pan. I began playing at the tender age of 9, where I received my appreciation for this beautiful art form. My first experience with calypso music came when I played steel pan with “Tunapuna Klondiks”. I performed for three years before moving on to another steel band called “Delphoniks”.
In 1977 a good friend of mine ,by the name of Elmuse, took me to play with "Witco Desperados Steel Orchestra. There I had the musical experience of my life. The band was led by the late Rudolph Charles joining with a great arranger Clive Bradley.
I left Trinidad in August 1991 to spread my horizon in the United States. While living with my father in Queens, I was lucky enough to be introduced to "Adlib Steel Band". I was fortunate to find such rich and beautiful calypso music in the states. Everytime I heard the pan play, I felt more and more at home.
In the early 90s, my musical experience took a huge turn. Around 1994, I met a wonderful arranger, George "G-Money" Culmer who began to broaden my musical knowledge in all types of music from R&B to Jazz. With my new found knowledge I proceeded to make two wonderful CDs.
"Look At Life" and "This One Is It" was inspired by my childhood, my new found understanding for music and most importantly my lovely wife Vern, who has stood by me all the way. For her I am thankful. I always felt it to be so important to have a good surrounding. A good atmosphere leads to beautiful, classical music. I base my musical expression around that philosophy.
My other inspiration is my religion and belief of help from upon high. I thank God for the privilege, the ability and the knowledge in getting my thoughts, my feelings and my interpretation of life out through my music. The wonderful people in my life...my friends...my family and all that have helped me achieve a fulfilling dream...Music...Simple...Panned.
