Redline Express was formed in 2002 with founding members Sandy Nelson, Stelling Nelson , Jason Lowe, and Aubrey Nelson. This Redline Express release features the efforts of Sandy Nelson, Bass, Stelling Nelson, Guitar and Lead Vocals, Jason Lowe, Banjo, Lead and Tenor vocals, Aubrey Nelson, Resonator Guitar and Baritone Vocals and Charles Duffey, Fiddle, Mandolin, Lead and Tenor vocals. Guest David Newsome provided support on lead guitar and also performed tenor vocals on the classic old time cut of “Dreamed of an Old Love Affair”. Richard Robinson stepped in on Bass Vocals on Preaching, Praying, Singing, the final cut on the CD. A unique touch was added to this song with it having the sound of an old 78 RPM record. This old school touch was in keeping with the album’s old time family theme. A traditional rendition of “Cherokee Shuffle” is as tight as you will hear with Duffey lighting up the fiddle. The kick off cut of the CD is the Randall Hylton classic “Room at the Top of the Stairs”. Jason Lowe showcases some fine banjo work on the tune with a truly old time singing voice that has made Jason famous in local Bluegrass circles. Stelling showcases his lead singing on “I’ll Take the Blame”. This tune is well put together with solid lead and harmony vocals supported by outstanding musicianship from start to finish. “Redline Express” written by Stelling Nelson and Spencer Taylor is the one inclusion of an original cut by the band. They did an excellent job on the cut and it is an hot instrumental tune by the band.
Aubrey Nelson did a solid job throughout this first effort by Redline Express. Aubrey’s style of resonator guitar puts all the right licks in the right places without overplaying. He also provides baritone vocal support throughout the CD. Sandy Nelson who began playing bass in 2002 is as solid as a rock on all the cuts on this project. Seven time IBMA Bass Player of the Year Missy Raines said “Sandy is as solid as they come and she really drives the bus.” Other cuts on the CD include “Somehow Tonight”, “Sophronie”, “Tiny Broken Heart”, “Dark Hollow”, “Lorena”, and the Monroe classic “White House Blues”.
Redline Express performs showcases throughout the Southeast and has opened for many national acts including Rhonda Vincent, Marty Raybun, Randy Kohrs, John Cowan, and The Blinky Moon Boys.
