Details:
John Rives grew up in the ‘70s in Athens, GA listening to Credence Clearwater Revival, Johnny Winter, The Allman Brothers, The Zombies, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Yes, The Rolling Stones, and Frank Zappa just to name a few. Other influences were Leo Kottke and Christopher Parkening. John studied classical guitar at the University of Georgia for two years and played in a number of rock bands during high school and college.
A couple years after moving to California in 1981, John met guitar-player/singer/songwriter, Rick Baugnon, and the two musicians hit it off immediately. They began writing songs together and produced a recording of four acoustic instrumentals songs. Both musicians were influenced heavily by Leo Kottke, and were now listening to Michael Hedges, who was a pioneer with the acoustic guitar.
Life circumstances led to a long break in musical recording and performance for both John and Rick, but they eventually got together again in 1997 in Nevada City, California, and recorded their first CD titled Threshold. John has played with many local musicians in the Nevada City area since that time.
Rick Baugnon grew up in New Orleans, LA and Beaumont, TX. - two cities with strong musical roots. He also studied classical guitar and was heavily influenced by The Beatles. Rick has performed in bands in New Orleans and Seattle, as well as numerous cities in California. He is a prolific songwriter and was featured at the Nevada County Singer/Songwriter performance venue in Grass Valley CA.
Rick used the stage name Rick Raven while performing and recording Threshold, but has since returned to using his real last name of Baugnon.
