Details:
Vincent Cross writes songs that fuse lyrical verse with heart-felt mountain string band sounds. His 12 track debut album Home away from Home features a full acoustic bluegrass band, as well as tunes stripped down to just mandolin and guitar. Cross uses his “crystal clear voice” to create atmosphere and authenticity according to the legendary Odetta. Sometimes, he sings with the traditional high-lonesome bluegrass sound, while other times he quiets down to a near whisper.
The new CD deals with a life lived far from home. Cross has lived in many of the world’s capitals: London, Paris, Dublin, Sydney and now New York. “After-hours” tells the tale of how alcoholism can destroy ambition, which he saw first hand while growing up above a pub in Ireland; and “Sensitize” broaches the inability to love in an over stimulating world.
