Details:
Edward Strauman, a Eubie and Marion Blake Scholar at New Yor University, earned his Ph.D. in music composition from the Steinhardt School of Education Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, where he studied composition with Justin Dello Joio and Deniz Hughes. While earning his Master of Music degree as an Artistic Merit Scholar at Manhattan School of Music, he studied composition with David Berger and Edward Green. Ed earned his Bachelor of Music degree at Temple University, where his composition studies included work with Clifford Taylor, Paul Epstein and Robert Morgan, as well as piano studies with George Sementovsky and Marion Filar. Additionally, he completed private study in jazz with Adolph Sandole, Jim McNeely and Manny Albam. Through the years, he has attended Master Classes with George Crumb, Milton Babbitt, Vincent Persichetti and Gunther Schuller. He has been the recipient of two National Endowment Awards and a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Additionally, he has received a Rogers Phelps Award from New York University for an outstanding dissertation, a Telly Award for contributions to children''s educational video, several ASCAP Popular Music Awards, and the Margaret Jory Award from the American Music Center. He has been the beneficiary of residencies at the ASCAP/NYU Buddy Baker Film Music Symposium and the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop.
