Details:
New York City by way of Western Massachusetts singer-songwriter Greg Alexander has been described as a combination of folk & acoustic blues.

In 2001 Greg was a finalist performer at SolarFest Vermont and the WRSI Songwriter Contest in Northampton, Massachusetts. In 2002 he performed at the New Jersey Folk Festival as one of the winners of their New Folk Showcase; he also performed at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival as part of their Emerging Artist Showcase.

"It''s about joy, really. Not simply happiness, but joy. I look for it when I play, regardless of what I''m singing about. That''s where the live performance comes in. When it''s all in the right place and really working, that joy is the true power of music."

Greg''s music has recently been compared to Keb Mo'' and Richie Havens; lyrically he has been compared to Bob Dylan.

"I''m glad my name comes up in such good company. I actually borrowed my first guitar from my mom, who was going through her own Richie Havens phase at the time. She never got that Guild F-20 back, by the way. I''m simply developing my own style, I hope."

Greg has been performing original material since 1994. He recently returned from solo club dates in Germany and the Netherlands. "I enjoy making Europe an annual event, a pilgrimage. Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam - the holy trinity. It''s always nice to let your hair down someplace new."

A multi-instrumentalist, Greg often holds music and theater workshops while on the road. Many are held at secondary schools during the academic year. "I enjoy giving workshops, it''s quite a change while working on the road, and (it) forces me to think in a totally different way. "

A native of Springfield, Massachusetts; Greg divides his time between New York City, The Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts and touring. A graduate of New York City''s National Shakespeare Conservatory, he has toured as both an actor & musician with Chrysalis Theatre Company of Northampton, Massachusetts; New York City''s National Shakespeare Company; Enchanted Circle Theatre Company of Holyoke Massachusetts; and the Shadowbox Theatre of New York City.

"When theater is in cahoots with music - it''s the best, it truly is."

Greg has three CDs currently available. His most recent release, entitled "Other Ways" is distributed on the Summit House Music label.
