When I listen to the music on this recording, I''m reminded of all the things that inspired me to want to devote my life to music.
How those harmonicovertones from insturments mad of wood and steel would literally change the air. The goose bumps that would creep up your skin when two or three voices would come together to find that perfect chord. Most of all was the joy of coming together with friends, new and old, to share our individual talentsto create that greater musical "whole."
That''s what comes acroos on this recording. The joy and magic that only "Musical Pals" can create. Of course, the individual efforts that each one of these musicians brings to the table are awesome. You''ll never hear finer mandolin playing than what Don does on "Crestwood." But more importantly, it''s the ensemble playing that truely shines. The blending of voices on "Wicked Path of Sin." The delicate interplay between Don''s mandolin and Steve Kaufman''s guitar on "Hot Springs."The great drive of the Dismembered Tennesseans on the old bluegrass chestnuts. I even laughed out loud when I heard the version of "Golden Ring," which must have been partly inspired by David Lynch''s Twin Peaks.
The bottom line, however, is that this music is made by great musicians doing what "musical pals" do! They share their God-given talents so that the rest of us can be reminded of what feeling good is a;ll about.
Yours in music,
