Details:
Daiquiri is a 2-piece electronic/punk/metal/dance band from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. MikeH provides the vocals and Lee Neuton plays live guitar. When recording, Lee plays the bulk of the instruments (guitar, bass, synths, drums, programming) while MikeH adds samples and noise using his own homemade circuit-bent instruments. An iPod provides the backing tracks when Daiquiri performs live.
Originally formed in 1999 as a four piece rock band, Daiquiri evolved from it’s previous incarnation, known as Brandon Walsh.
After several appearences on The Tom Green Show, Mike & Lee recruited Tom’s sidekick Glenn Humplik to become their fulltime guitarist, although that would come to an end upon The Tom Green Show moving from New York City to Los Angeles, CA.
As a result shortly after releasing their debut album, 2001’s “Third World Budget”, losing their guitarist, and ditching their bassist, Daiquiri took on more of an experimental “electro-punk” sound which can be found on their sophomore release, 2003’s “Box Office Poison”.
In 2005 Daiquiri finally released their third full length studio album, “Babies Making Babies”, and continue to tour globally, typically playing non-stop all across North America in between trips oversea’s. 2008 will see the release of at least 2 new CDs. One, titled “Flower Shaped Num Nums”, is a collection of covers. The other will be a new full-length.
In addition to the band, lead singer MikeH also briefly hosted his own weekly internet radio talk show, The Mike & Phil Show, along side Phil Giroux (of “Tom Green Show” fame.) Meanwhile guitarist Lee Neuton can also be found playing for The Sun Through a Telescope, Fuck The Facts, Lauderdale and The Bronze in his spare time.
Daiquiri recently made a couple of appearances for Tom Green Live, alongside comedian Neil Hamburger, former wrestling star Chyna Doll, and DJ EZ Mike (of The Dust Brothers, who they performed live on the show with), and Daiquiri can be found on Faith No More’s “Tribute Of The Year” album.
