Review:
I met German trumpet player / businessman some years ago at a community radio station I worked at shortly after he arrived’ with his wife in Cape Town. He was so taken with the musical talent he discovered he immersed himself in and got involved in the Cape Town music scene. He invested in some property and soon set up a jazz club to which he bravely enticed the jazz loving people of Cape Town. Great times were had buy all who visited at Ortsiva. Klaus had continued to release CD’s working with local musicians as is his policy when visiting a country, the previous one was a tribute to Charlie Parker featuring Cape Town born Alto supremo and acknowledged Parker exponent Harold Jefta. Which is a really good album. 2007 saw Klaus visiting Brazil and the urge to record another album soon began to itch and April in Rio is the result. All of the tunes on the album are Klaus Werner-Pusch originals baring one, Bronislaw Karper & Paul Francis Webster’s Invitation. Brazilian Sax man Mauro Senise and his Latin brothers add a different dimension to the album and though not an entirely Latin flavoured album it stays true to Klaus’s Be-Bop roots. The album sadly is not yet available but write to Klaus at ortsiva@https://www.tradebit.com, or visit Klaus Werner''s web site https://www.tradebit.com to find out how to obtain a copy of April in Rio, the globe trotting jazz lover is currently in Zurich rehearsing with Makaya & the New Tsotsis which includes Andy Scherrer (ts), Stephan Kurmann (b), Fred Lang (p) and Klaus. They play a festival in Heidelberg Germany tonight are including a number of south African Composers material in their set, Damn wish I was there.
