Since making her operatic debut as the three heroines in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann with Spokane Opera, Kari Ragan is continually praised for her sparkling lyric coloratura voice and dynamic stage presence. In addition, she is acclaimed as a crossover singer, having the ability to sing beautifully in Oratorio, Opera or the Musical Theatre genre. Other operatic roles include Gretel in Hansel and Gretel sung with both Lyric Opera Northwest and Lake Chelan Bach Feste; Serpetta in the Oregon premiere of Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera; Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore with Opera Idaho and Helena Symphony; Frasquita in Carmen with Washington East Opera; Zdenka in Arabella and Blondchen from Die Entfürung aus dem Serail both sung at Bel Canto Northwest.
Concert Work includes Carmina Burana with the Ft. Collins Symphony as well as the Seattle Choral Company, Honneger’s King David, Vivaldi Gloria and Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Tri-Cities Oratorio Orchestra, Impresario with Spokane Symphony, and Mozart’s Requiem in Colorado Springs, Haydn’s The Creation and Bach’s Cantata Jauchzett Gott in allen Landen both with the Lake Chelan Bach Festival. Seasonally, she performs Messiah in the Tri-Cities and Colorado Springs. In addition, she is a frequent recitalist, having recently presented a series of recitals, throughout the Pacific Northwest, with Maestro Dean Williamson at the piano.
A highlight for Miss Ragan was performing for four months in the award winning show “A Cabaret Tour Of Broadway” in Chicago where she was a featured soloist in scenes from Candide, King and I, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Rent, Grease and Chicago.
Having received her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Washington, she additionally holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Vocal Performance from the renowned training program at Indiana University. Among other awards and honors she has been recognized as the Regional Finalist for the Metropolitan Opera National Council and the Regional Finalist for the MacCallister Competition.
