I''m just your average Joe Shmoe. The guy mowing the lawn next door. The guy behind you in the line at the grocery store buying a Butterfinger and Mountain Dew for lunch. The guy with a morbidly obese Shih Tzu dog named Rupert. You get the picture.
I''m just some average guy who happens to play the piano. Actually, I love the piano. I think about playing the piano when I''m eating my Wheat Chex in the morning. Sometimes I think about playing the piano when I''m talking to the neighbor next door, or when I''m buying a Butterfinger at the store. I''m so warped that I have dreams about playing the piano!
When I was around eighteen, I decided to teach myself how to play the piano. For someone with absolutely no musical experience or talent, I might as well have decided to teach myself how to perform hernia surgeries. I''m not going to lie, it was hard work. I''m sure I spent about the same number hours practicing as it would have taken to crochet a blanket the size of Michigan.
After trying to learn other people''s tunes, I eventually started writing my own stuff and finally had enough songs to put on a CD. My first disc, Moment of Peace was recorded at Spiral Studios with recording guru Steve Lemmon.
The next year brought another original album called Heart To Heart in 2002 as well as a Live CD from a concert at Spiral.
Following suit, another record was released in Fall 2003 titled Silent Night: Instrumental Music for the Christmas Season, but I re-recorded the disc in 2005 with completely new arrangements, a great piano, and some amazing musicians playing backup.
I bet you can predict what happened in 2004. Correct, another CD. This one was also recorded at Spiral Studios and is a piano album of arrangements of Christian hymns. My favorite part of the CD is a bonus track called "Face to Face" featuring the singing of Pearl Award winner Sam Payne.
Then we reach 2006. Can you guess what that year welcomed? I''ll give you a hint, it starts with "n" and ends with "ew album". The KEYS To Billy Joel features some of Joel''s best tunes, and is the first in a series of KEYS tribute discs.
2007: Yep. An album of original music called You Will Soar. I included Steven Sharp Nelson, an absolutely amazing cello player, who added a whole new layer to the music.
That brings us to 2008. Like the previous seven years in a row, many months have been spent preparing a new CD. The combination of hymns and original songs called Believe again includes cello from Steve Nelson.
Thanks for your interest in my music. After all, you could be listening to instrumental giant Yanni! I''m honored that you listen to my stuff despite my lack of long, flowing black hair like Yanni. It''s going to be a cold day in Southern Utah before that ever happens.
Stay tuned gang - the best is yet to come!
