New York City-based saxophonist and composer Logan Corea Richardson serves up a unique alto sax sound. Logan’s compositions encompass a whirlwind of textures, drawing from traditional and modern styles.
Kansas City, Missouri: Logan was born in 1980. His formal musical training began with flute studies at the age of twelve. At fourteen, Logan took up the alto saxophone, studying classical and improvised music. Logan soon began playing his horn professionally, and earned a slot as featured soloist with the Kansas City Symphony at age sixteen. At the Kansas City Jazz Institute and later attending Jazz at Aspen, Logan was fortunate to learn from a who’s who of jazz greats. Logan attended Berklee College of Music and The New School University.
Incomparable collaborations: Logan has had the opportunity to work professionally with Joe Chambers, Stefon Harris, Carl Allen, Mulgrew Miller, Vic Juris, Greg Tardy, Nasheet Waits, Josh Roseman, George Garzone, Kevin Mahogany, Arthur Blythe, Myron Walden, Cyrus Chestnut, Chris Cheek, Javon Jackson, Eric McPherson, Bobby Watson, and James Carter. In 2005, Logan and his band were featured in the Greg Osby Presents series at the Jazz Standard. Logan recorded his debut album as a leader on Fresh Sound Records; it was released in 2006. Logan recorded with jazz drummer great Joe Chambers on his 2006 Savant Records album, “The Outlaw,” and with acclaimed tenor saxophonist Greg Tardy on his most recent album on Steeplechase Records.
Currently Logan is leading his quartet at the top New York City venues.
