Some say that a picture is worth a thousand words. For centuries, human beings have employed visual aids to help document their life and times. Early man drew on the walls of caves. The Romans sculpted statues. The Egyptians based their entire alphabet on images and symbols. In fact, nearly every civilisation has possessed some kind of visual history. It is a practice that is as time-honoured as the wheel, and has become as natural as breathing. As far back as he can tell Tyler Kyte has been drawing pictures with music. Using note, staff, bar and beat he paints a vibrant portrait of who he is, where he comes from, the exciting events that have brought him to his current stage, and where he will go in the future.
Tyler is an artist of many talents. Hailing from Lindsay, Ontario, he began his professional career at the age of twelve when he landed the widely desired role of Young Tommy in the acclaimed rock opera “The Who’s TOMMY”. Now, at the age of twenty-three, Tyler’s acting and performing career is still going strong. After a slew of leading and guest-starring roles in various Canadian television shows, he was awarded the role of Vincent Spiederman on CTV’s hit series “Instant Star”. Originally, the role was not much more than a bit part in the show’s first season, but in recognition of Tyler’s extraordinary musical talent, the second season saw the role expanded to include more on-screen performance.
Tyler’s acting talents aside, his true passion lies within his music. As a multi-instrumentalist on guitars, keys, drums and vocals he is able to compose from various musical perspectives. It is this sort of sensible songwriting that makes Tyler the formidable musician that he is. Through the strength of his vision, “Talking Pictures” delivers feel-good pop with an introspective twist. The lyrics are fuelled by memories past, and driven by future ambitions; all the while conveyed through Tyler’s trademark charm and positive attitude. Songs like “What You Need” evoke a true sense of longing through its sweet words and melody to match. Softer ballads such as “Sarah” allow the listener unfettered access to the realm of the heart, and serve to remind us of the very human need to be loved. Finally, the album is tied together with the raunchy, fuzzy guitar noise of the title track; “Talking Pictures” showcasing Tyler’s strong rock influence. In the past two seasons, “Instant Star” has seen Tyler’s songs featured on the show and on the annual soundtrack series, “Songs From Instant Star.” In addition to his solo work, Tyler moonlights as the drummer for the rock combo Sweet Thing.
Tyler Kyte is no stranger to the spotlight. Whether on stage, in concert, or on the television screen he carries himself with dignity, poise, and an air of comfort that only comes from years of performing experience. On the surface it may seem as though Tyler simply had fame coming to him. Nothing could be further from the truth. Just as Tyler is no stranger to the spotlight, he is also no stranger to the pitfalls and struggles that come with the job, and he has never forgotten his early days in Toronto when he was not much more than a kid with a guitar at an open-mic playing for a handful of people. It’s these memories that serve to ink the “Talking Pictures” of Tyler’s past, and deliver them in the form of heart-felt melodies. Through love and loss, through pain and pleasure, through dream and reality Tyler Kyte’s “Talking Pictures” speak for themselves.
