I am just an ordinary country boy who has lived down a dirt road basically my entire life. I love my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my family, my church, the great outdoors, sports, and of course, MUSIC!!!
My wife and I began our own lawn maintenance/ landscape business 5 summers ago in Northeast PA. Previously, I had lived in North Carolina and worked for a landscape business on occasion. Thankfully some friends helped my wife and I get involved in starting our own business. As with all those who have their own business, times have not always been “peachy”!!! However, we are truly blessed!!
My music history goes back to the 1st grade. My mom and dad began my brother and I on the piano. I hated every minute of it. However, they would not let me quit. They would say, “We’ve heard too many people say they wish they would not have quit, to let you quit”!! Today, I am thankful for their (particularly my mom’s) persistence in my music education. There was only one problem. I did not want to learn new stuff. I enjoyed playing the things I already knew and did not care. So, I say today, “I wish I would have put my whole heart and soul into it because I could be soooo. . . much better”!! Well, hind-site is always 20-20—Right!!!
As I said, I am thankful for my parent’s persistence in the area of music in my life. If I did not learn like I should have, one thing I did get is a love for it! I do love music. I love to sing, play, write, etc. I began writing my own music and playing guitar while in college. Seeing as how I love the outdoors—hunting, fishing, etc. I began writing about my experiences.
Some of those songs can be heard on my first Album: “From the Heart of A Country Boy”. It is more traditional country album, with songs to which any lover of the outdoors can relate!! Although many have enjoyed that first album and I enjoyed putting that first album together, it needed something more professional—quality of sound, musicians, etc—to make the album what I think it should be. But, the past is the past and you can’t go back, so I need to look at the second album I am planning and see where I can make corrections.
Having received prices on professional recordings, I knew I could not afford a whole album. I spoke to my producer about doing 1 song for me at professional quality which would mean “professional price”!! I had been working on a patriotic single for quite some time. I chose this song : “You’re A Hero: A Tribute to the US Military”, as the one shot song!!!
The story behind the song is as follows:
“Back in 2006, I happened to be in a gas station near my home in NE Pennsylvania. While searching for my last bit of change to pay the cashier, I heard a fella from somewhere behind me say he had just returned from Iraq. That statement caused me to turn and look to see who said it. It was definately not difficult to spot the man in military garb!! I finally found the last bit of change and immediately walked up and began to speak to this man.
I found out he had indeed recently returned from Iraq, and he and his wife were vacationing at a nearby resort. He also mentioned he was to return to Iraq for a second term shortly. We exchanged some small talk, but before we parted ways, I let him know that I, in particular, was behind him, and there were many others who supported him as well. I thanked him for his service and told him to "GO KICK SOME BUTT" for his country!!
Only days after that meeting, I began thinking of how I could make that encounter into a song that would show appreciation for those serving in the US military. Now, 2 years later, this song, is the outcome of what happened that day between that soldier and myself. I have always been grateful for what our servicemen and women do for our country, but my gratitude was greatly increased after that day. So, to the US MILITARY--I SALUTE AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE FOR ME AND FOR OUR COUNTRY!!! WE COULD NEVER REPAY YOU!! YOU"RE ALL HEROES!!!
I am a very patriotic person and get fired up when I hear about our military and those serving our country. I hope you are the same way. If so, you will enjoy this single. Please feel free to E-mail me and give me any suggestions or feedback you may have. I appreciate the time you have spent with me today. Enjoy!!! And God Bless!!!
Sincerely,
Joel Proffit
