John Hopf announces the release of his new CD, "Songs from Another Time." All of the songs except for "Let It Be," were written by John Hopf over a thirty year period, and portray a life filled with a love of music, nature and self determination. "A Whisper in the Sun" is reminiscent of Neil Young''s folk-rock style.
“The Old Man in Me,” an autobiographical ballad introduces the object of the song, his daughter Maggie. Maggie’s powerful voice communicates a legacy of music being passed from father to daughter. Maggie also performs a simple, yet evocative rendition of “Let it Be.”
In “Catskill Mountain Night,” Hopf sings about his love for the Catskill Mountains in New York and in the title song, “Songs from Another Time” he imparts the drive to create in spite of elusive commercial success.
“No Light will Appear” elicits lessons forgotten from the Vietnam War when in 1969 Richard Nixon declared, “there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” yet the war raged on for 4 more years. After 5 years of war in Iraq, there is still no light at the end of the tunnel.
An avid runner and powerlifter, Hopf takes athletic training very seriously. In “I’ll Keep Running,” his self deprecating lyrics inspire and coax us to fight off the aging process by working out and fighting off our ills.
