Selecting proper music for the church wedding can be one of the most difficult decisions facing the bride and groom. With the return to a more formal, traditional service, young couples are constantly searching the great classic masterpieces for appropriate selections.
Since the organ is found in most churches, the addition of a solo trumpet lends a bright, regal sound that would help any couple unlock their knees and advance down that long, sometimes intimidating, aisle.
Organist Sue Mitchell-Wallace and trumpeter John Head combined their considerable arranging talents in preparing the manuscripts for a collection entitled THE CLASSICAL WEDDING, published by Hope Publishing Company in 1988. A second volume entitled THE JOYOUS WEDDING has also been published following the success of the first book. This CD, featuring Ms. Mitchell-Wallace and Mr. Head at the organ and trumpet respectively, includes all of the titles from both collections.
Mr. Head uses a Kanstul piccolo trumpet, a Kanstul C trumpet, a Schilke E-flat cornet, a Schilke D trumpet, and a flugelhorn. All of the solo parts included in the sheet music are for B-flat trumpet and several are also scored for D trumpet.
Ms. Mitchell-Wallace is playing a 37-rank Schantz organ, built and installed at St. Luke''s Presbyterian Church in 1987 with 2148 pipes and 3 manuals. It also contains a set of 21 tubular chimes and a cymblestern (small bells used for festive occasions).
May these arrangements for solo trumpet and organ help start many a couple off on the right foot.
