Details:
Magnus Holmén is a singer/songwriter residing in both Los Angeles and Stockholm, Sweden.
He grew up in Sweden, and at a very early age started singing in choirs and playing different instruments.
During his teens he became a member of several bands in styles ranging from punk and hard rock to acoustic folk-music, playing many different instruments such as guitar, organ, percussion, harmonica and more.
His passion for music led him to study classical guitar at a music high school, while playing professionally with his bands at clubs around the west coast of Sweden.
The urge for adventure, and love for all music with roots and substance, came together during a turbulent four month long journey through India, in intense studies at a small music school in Varanasi. When not spending his days watching dead bodies being burnt along the river, (and once getting offered to eat the boiling brain straight out of the skull of one of them), he took private lessons in classical Indian music on both sitar and tablas.
Among his many accomplishments he earned a living in music, singing in different vocal ensembles, and also conducted, and wrote and arranged music for a 40-piece choir in Stockholm.
Moving to Hollywood, California to pursue a career in music in America he attended both Guitar Institute of Technology and Vocal Institute of Technology at the well known Musicians Institute, to further develop his talents as a musician and songwriter, and has since performed acoustic shows under his own name at venues in the Los Angeles area, as well as collaborating as a songwriter and guitarist with other artists.
With his heart close to both folk and rock, and heavily influenced by artists like Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, etc, it comes very natural to compare him to them, but the keen listener has also been able to pick out resemblances of heavier artists such as Opeth, Zack Wylde and Live, together with artists leaning more towards folk/country such as Patty Griffin and Ryan Adams.
