Details:
The group Neutral Sisters consists of two sisters Kyra and Bianca Noons. Born in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya Africa, to an English father and Jamaican mother. The sister’s aspirations would be molded, as their father was a lead performer in the world renowned musical “Hair” also starring the legendary JOAN ARMATRADING. During the latter days of president Mzee Kenyatta reign, the African freedom fighter, the sisters grew to the chanting and drumming sounds of the MASAI warriors.

In 1980 the family moved to London and spent the next seven years there before returning to Jamaica. The musical influences at the time came from a wide spectrum of sources. The likes of Marvin Gaye, Madonna, Pink Floyd, Donna Summer, Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Jacob Miller would soon take hold.

By the time Neutral reached Jamaica in 1986 they were listening to the sounds of Dennis Brown, Tony Rebel, Buju Banton, JC Lodge, Half Pint, Freddie McGregor and other reggae artists. The dancehall played quite an influence, as Neutral’s lyrics are conscious answers to statements posed in dancehall lyrics. Neutral Sister’s voice training came out of church choirs in London and Montego Bay High School choir and choirs in Houston Texas where they now reside

In 1998 Neutral went into “Yard Sound” recording studio, owned and operated by Orville Adams from Kingston Jamaica, in Houston Texas. The song “Live N Direct” was completed and immediately entered into the National Billboard songwriters contest. The song won first prize in the category pop and Neutral were on their way.

1999 was a special year for Neutral as they shared the stage with the likes of Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Beres Hammond and Buju Banton.

The year 2000 started with a performance in the Bob Marley Festival in Houston Texas. Neutral were featured artists in Midem France, one of the largest music expos in the world. In March they shared the stage with Luciano in Negril on the Tropical Insanity tour, co-ordinated by Walter Elmore, who was later instrumental in Neutral Sisters debut at Reggae Sumfest 2000. They made an impressionable impact whilst performing with the renowned rap group “Bone Thugs and Harmony” along with reggae sensation “Beenie Man” at the Aquasol production in Montego Bay Jamaica, which created a stir.

In 2001 “Live N Direct” generated so much interest that a relationship between Neutral and various producers began. With the prowess of “Pops” John Dowling: the vocal producer extraordinaire at the helm of the UB 40 Studio, the “Dynamic Duo” Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespear on the drums and base guitar as well as Robbie Lyn on the keyboard and Ernie Ranglin later on solo guitar. The album, has been mastered at Sugar Hill Recording Studio in Houston Texas in 2001 into 2002. What Neutral brings to the music industry is unique lyrics and has written and comprised all the melodies and harmonies that have made the album “Live N Direct” a heavy hitter.

In 2002 Neutral gave a promising performance at Rebel Salute at Port Kaiser Sports Club in St. Elizabeth Jamaica, in front of an audience of over 20,000 people. Neutral tributed their performance to the late Pele Lanier, who was both their Manager and beloved friend.

2003 was the first ever Reggae Sumfest in Miami and Neutral Sisters were the only roots reggae act involved in the lineup of Sean Paul, Wyclife, Lady Saw, Wayne Wonder, Beenie Man, Fat Joe, Lil’ Kim and others.
