Jim Miller started out playing in cheesy garage bands, doing covers at school dances, and writing material which was a derivation of the popular musical trends of the time.
In the early 1980''s he began playing in and writing for experimental bands such as The Chromatics, and The Swamis (w/Tom Larkins [Jonathan Richman''s drummer] and Lance Kaufman). Through the 80''s he played in, and was the primary writer for, local Tucson bands such as The Band From Heck, Henry Electric, and Howling Molinas. While these bands enjoyed critical success, they did not prove to be commercially viable.
During this same period he was in and out of numerous Tucson area bands such as Street Pajama, Los Lasers, and Las Cruces (w/Billy Sed and Scott Garber of Giant Sand). These bands worked regularly and actually received money for playing!
Eventually growing weary of the live music scene, Jim retired from performing to pursue writing and recording, further developing his own musical ideas.
His second CD, "fiber", features an eclectic mix of musical styles and genres. From the eerie reggae-drenched groove of "Cold Wind" to the quirky techno-pop killer "I Know U Will", it''s an exhilarating ride that will grab you by the ears and make you think.
