Details:
Elkhart is the newest project from Travis Hopper, Michael Crowder, Jarad Brown, Sam Romero, and Bruce Johnson.
Their debut - "The Moon" - is available now.
Guest musicians on "The Moon" include Eric Pulido (Midlake), Kevin Minihan (Eastwood), Salim Nourallah, and Daniel Hopkins (Radiant*, Salim Nourallah).
In October 2007, the Dallas-based collective - which has played together for many years in different bands and projects (Americanos, Joyful Sinners, Trainwreck, Travis Hopper, JD Whittenburg) - started meeting several times a week in a small, attic rehearsal studio to explore a new direction and sound they''d experimented with but never fully defined.
Their new direction took them away from the alt. country pop of past projects and down a slower, darker, and more Southern road - guided by a light the Red House Painters or Calexico might have followed had they been from Texas.
Elkhart recorded their rehearsals, listening back to each part and stripping it to the bare essentials. They followed that up with a month-long Artist in Residence at Dallas''s Club Dada, testing the material live (and opening for Sondre Lerche in the process).
In a little more than two months, they''d arrived at something unique – a sound all their own, but one that would also fit nicely on a bill with past local favorites Pleasant Grove or current friends and fellow musicians Doug Burr and Telegraph Canyon.
"The Moon" was recorded and mixed in Dallas, TX at Pleasantry Lane Studio with Salim Nourallah.
It was mastered in New Windsor, NY at West West Side Music by Alan Douches (Midlake, Sufjan Stevens, My Morning Jacket).
