To give you an idea of the quality of his songs and background music, listen to this: Geno has twice appeared on a San Diego TV show featuring Songwriters where he was asked to perform not just one, but six of his songs. All six are on this CD along with five other written since he appeared on the show the second time. The quality of the background music will also pleasantly surprise you.
Geno is a songwriter of original songs that are based on true stories or factual events. He is also truly a songwriter who writes songs hoping they will catch the eye of a well known country music recording artist to record one or more of them.
Geno grew up in Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee and his songs reflect that area and time. He started writing songs for relatives and friends which were which were true stories about them. Then he would give the song to them as a gift. After seeing their reactions, he was hooked on songwriting.
Geno gets his inspiration from true stories. For Example, at the age of 12, he worked at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville when all the country music legends were appearing there, including Hank Williams, Sr. So he wrote a song about that experience. And when his family moved to Memphis when he was a teenager and he ran into an unusual teenager with an unusual name, clothes and hair by the name of Elvis before he was discovered. That also became the subject of one of his songs.
Each song title is fairly descriptive of what’s on each CD. Following is a breakdown of each:
1. “Please Don’t Take The Christ Out Of Christmas” is a true story of a little boy (Geno as an 8 year old child)who wonders to his Dad why people write "X"mas removing the name of Christ.
2. “Remember Those Missing In Action” is a Patriotic song about the spirit of the MIA''s and POW''s asking for help to bring them home.
3. “Before They Went To Heaven”(At the Ryman) is a true story about the early days of the Ryman Auditorium as seen by a 12 year (Geno) who was there.
4. “In Her Eyes” is a true story about how a woman in love sees a man as more than he is (as demonstrated by Geno''s wife in their early years while they were struggling)
5. “There’s A Dream In My Dreams” is a true story about how a man dreams of the perfect woman for him and finally finds her (about how Geno met his wife).
6. “Pearl Harbor / 9-11” is a Patriotic song about comparing the two tragedies and honoring those who died.
7. “Before Elvis Was A King” is a true story about Elvis when he was in high school before he became famous as observed by Geno, who was there.
8. “Stand Tall, America” is a Patriotic song about supporting our troops in Iraq who are still at War.
9. “Our Favorite Place” is a fun true story about a nightspot with an unusual name where Geno and his wife went to dance.
10. “The Fear Of Losing” is a true story explaining why a woman in an abusive relationship takes it and what she does about it. (Geno''s mother when she was with his abusive stepfather).
11. “Before They Went To Heaven” (At the Ryman) Bluegrass Style is the original true story that song number three was developed from, but in more elaborate detail and in Bluegrass style.
