Details:
Primal Swing is one of the best jazz/fusion combos to come from Oklahoma. All of the musicians in the band are professionals who dedicate their lives to music. With an impressive catalog of tunes ranging from John Coltrane and Miles Davis to Chick Corea, and from Weather Report to John Scofield, it seems like there isn''t anything that they can''t play. They are also very dedicated to writing their own original compositions.

Mike Schmidt began his musical career at the age of ten when he joined his elementary school orchestra, playing the double bass. Mike then spent the next decade learning to play the electric bass privately. His career hit a milestone in 2000 when Mike again picked up the double bass and became interested in jazz music. “I just love the freedom and expression this music gives me,” says Schmidt. Using players such as Ron Carter, Scott LaFaro, Stanley Clarke, Christian McBride, Jaco Pastorius, and Marcus Miller as inspiration, Mike would then take a path toward mastering improvisation on both electric and double bass. Mike Schmidt is credited with playing with local artists such as 7 Blue, Gayle Williamson with Soundz Good, Ted Moses, SCORE with Chuck and Sandy Gardner, and Tuxedo Junction. Mike has also worked with international recording artists such as Scott Wendholt, Bobby Watson, Mulgrew Miller, Henry Johnson, Kevin Mahogany, and Bob Mintzer. Currently, Mike holds a bachelors degree in Music Education from Northeastern State University and is the full time bass player for the jazz/fusion group known as Primal Swing.
