Music For The Modern Primitive was formed out of the minds of
Mark Younger-Smith, guitarist for Billy Idol and Charlie Sexton
Tal Bergman, drummer for LL Cool J and Billy Idol.
Carmine Rojas, bassist for David Bowie and Rod Stewart
The journey started after Younger-Smith recorded "Cyberpunk" his last album with Billy Idol.
"I started using some middle eastern and oriental influences in some of the techno music Billy and I were writing. The natural progression for me was to continue on with my feelings but to replace the disco beats with some more acoustic instruments, you know , to give it some earth."
You can hear many styles in this music which can go from somber and dark to manic almost industrial mayhem;then back to swirling, head spinning almost lovesick.
"I think I''ve always had the edgy, twisted side of music inside me, but lately I''ve really been exploring melody and how nicely something soft and breathy can fit into something really,well, almost violent."
When listening to Music For The Modern Primitive it''s strange how these contrasting styles mesh together, the driving sexual bombardment of "Naughty", the lush mind ringing melody of "With Grace", the funky drive with the modern question "Electronics", and yet it all has a thread which must be called...
