Details:
Inspired by the music of Strength In Numbers, A.V.A.S. (or the Acoustic Vibration Appreciation Society) has long been Western North Carolina''s answer to the instrumental music of Nashville''s acoustic legends. AVAS was recently mentioned in the book "Power, Passion and Beauty: The Story Of The Legendary Mahavishnu Orchestra" alongside Sam Bush as an example of the Mahavishnu Orchestra''s influence on country music.
The long-time friends who make up AVAS are instrumental to some of Western North Carolina''s most influential bands. They created Acoustic Syndicate, Snake Oil Medicine Show, Mad Tea Party, CX-1, and Jackson Crossing.
All of the original compositions that comprise the AVAS repertoire are intense collaborations. One of the main composers, Banjoist Andy Pond, was recently invited to perform at Carnegie Hall with Edgar Meyer. Andy is joined by Jay Sanders on Bass, multi-instrumentalist Jason Krekel, Saxophonist Jeremy Saunders, Billy Seawell on Percussion and Gaines Post on flute.
AVAS performances are rare and always exciting. The power, passion and beauty of their music is something that should be experienced to truly appreciate.
