Details:
In the mid 90’s, the music scene in Iowa City, Iowa was seething with talent and energy. Along with bands like High and Lonesome, Dagobah, The Big Daddy Sugarsnake and Sexual Buddha, Sheltering Sky helped create one of the Mid-West’s most amazing musical eras.

Playing well known Iowa venues like The Yacht Cub, Gabe’s, Gunner’s, Safaris, Stebbs and Sheffield’s, Sheltering Sky quickly earned a reputation for delivering high energy, improvisational live performances that drove audiences into booze fueled dance frenzies.

Comprised of Troy Bervig (Bass), Chad Slater-Scott (Drums and Vocals), Thomas Pace (Lead Vocals and Acoustic Guitar), Jason Donato (Guitar) and Todd Threet (Guitar); Sheltering Sky put out their only Cd, “Travellin’ the Land” at the tail end of 1993 and toured the Mid-West extensively in support of it for the next two years.

Although in 1995 the band split up so that members could pursue other musical projects, “Travellin’ the Land” remains a seminal example of what some have called The Iowa City Groove Movement. Produced by Dave Burlingame and mixed by John Svec, this special record is more than a simply a handful of songs from a small-town college band. Sheltering Sky’s “Travellin’ the Land” is a record that somehow manages to capture a slice of its culture and time. And oh what a time it was.
