It''s Banjo Time!
I''m very proud to offer you the culmination of over 30 years of banjo playing with this professionaly produced recording. Accompanied by my sister Hayley (violin and vocal), Fraser Gartshore (piano and kilt), Clive Fenton (sousaphone and tuba) and Graham Collicott (drums and percussion) I present a full 72 minutes hot jazz banjo tunes, rags, crooners and evergreens.
The titles are:-
Somebody stole my gal, Mr. Sandman, Temptation rag, Cecilia, High society, Blue skies, Nuages, I''m looking over a four leafed clover, Leaning on a lamp post, Deed I do, Moonlight serenade, Changes, I''m coming Virginia, Dinah, You''re driving me crazy, Chinese laundry blues, I''m sitting on top of the world, A nightingale sang in Berkeley square, Lover come back to me, Somewhere over the rainbow and After you''ve gone.
This style of banjo playing goes back to the Vaudeville days of Eddie Peabody, Harry Reser and Perry Bechtel but modern influences of Django Reinhardt, Al Casey, Carl Kress and even a hint Bluegrass picking can be found here too. The five string banjo is popular today but in the days before Bluegrass plectrum and tenor (four string) banjo were the kings of the genre. Give this one a listen, it is original, it has drive, power and subtlety...just good music played well.
