The Lindsey Family - SHINE!

Lindsey Family Records LFR0006

Shine is the third CD release from the Lindsey Family now with several years of experience singing professionally. From the very traditional “River of Jordan” to the contemporary drive of “Kentucky Borderline” (guitar solo provided by 12 year old Caleb), this CD has an appeal to every generation of bluegrass lovers.

This family band shares vocal parts giving it a constant variation in sound and the timeless beauty of family harmony. Instrumentation includes Alan, on lead and rhythm guitar; 17-year-old Jared on banjo, Elisabeth (16) on bass; 14-year-old Ben on fiddle; Caleb (13) on mandolin and Rebekah (12) on rhythm guitar. Other contributing vocals include Tammy, Naomi and Grandpa Ray—all Lindseys. All family. Three generations of bluegrass musicians sharing a heritage that they love!

The soul and reprise versions of “This Little Light of Mine” are the inspiration for the title of this new album. Both old and young will delight at the punchy lead vocals of 10-year-old Naomi on the familiar Sunday School favorite. The natural giggles of the younger Lindsey children are intermingled with soulful, bluesy instrumentation and vocals creating an irresistible joy in the listening.

The album also boasts two original songs - “Death of a Man” incorporates creative lyrics inspired by a true story of martyrdom combined with the musical genius of young Jared’s arrangement. “Another Barefoot Walk”, the first-ever recording of young and forthcoming NY musician and songwriter, Nick Piccininni, demonstrates classic bluegrass style in an expressive story of the hardship of yesteryear.

Combining a commitment to tradition with wholesome lyrics and some tasteful drive, this album will appeal to listeners of ages.

2008 Top 10 SPBGMA Band Competition Finalists
“… their stage presence and performance is amazing, given the relative ages of the members. Their instrumentation is solid and their harmonies are family-tight. Their personalities shine through and assure audiences that the future of the American family is in good hands!” –Bill McBee, Pine Mountain Railroad

From traditional bluegrass to contemporary drive mingled with a little Texas swing, some jazz and classical overtones and a few favorites of Southern Gospel featuring “Mama,” the Lindsey Family has an appeal to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. This family band mixes professional vocals and musicianship with the delightful interaction of a family playing music as they would from their living room and setting audiences at ease wherever they go. The primary band features Alan and the oldest five children ranging in age from 12-17, but Tammy and the younger five children all participate in the show as does Grandpa Ray Lindsey whenever he has the opportunity. This is a multi-generational display of heritage and togetherness all but lost in our contemporary world.

Alan Lindsey, the “Papa” of the crew leads the band with his strong rhythm guitar and vocals. Better known as “Skip,” he started playing guitar when he was 16 years old. Since he came from a family of bluegrass jamming, he developed a love for the music and has successfully passed that on to his children. Skip continues to be the main lead singer for the group bringing his strong, distinctive sound now blended with beautiful family harmony.
Jared Lindsey, 17, began playing guitar at age six, and took up banjo at age nine- now his featured instrument. Jared is also a talented guitarist, bass player, pianist and singer. He loves Jazz music, especially Gypsy Jazz and Dixieland. He hopes to release a solo album in 2009 of alternative and jazz banjo music. Jared placed 2nd in the banjo competition for the Cumberland River Bluegrass Festival in 2008.
Elisabeth Lindsey, 16, shines as a vocalist, singing harmony as well as lead. She keeps the rest of the band in time with her skillful bass playing and tends to be the glue that holds the band together...period! She is a talented pianist, and also plays mandolin, guitar and a little fiddle.
Ben Lindsey, 14, has been playing fiddle for the group since he was 8. The Thousand Islands Bluegrass Music Association dubbed him "Bluegrass Fiddler of the Year" in 2003. He blends delightfully with his siblings in harmony and plays guitar and bass as well. A multiple award winner in competitions, Ben continues to grow and mature musically.
Caleb Lindsey, 13, started playing guitar at age 6 and took up mandolin at 8 - his featured instrument. He also contributes to vocals. Caleb’s impressive rhythm and lead mandolin often surprise audiences because of his young age. Caleb has a natural ability to play almost any instrument he touches and can out-lead Skip on the guitar! Caleb placed 2nd in the adult mandolin competition for the Cumberland River Bluegrass Festival in 2008.
A powerful lead singer at just 12 years old, Rebekah Lindsey is now developing her skills with harmony and vocal inflections as well. She plays rhythm guitar for the band and is thrilled to have just received a new Martin D-28! Rebekah is also developing her lead guitar and placed first in the 12 and under category for guitar at the Cumberland River Bluegrass festival, 2008.
